DERMATOLOGY
A dermatology consultation is used to diagnose and treat skin conditions (dermatitis, eczema, urticaria, erythema, acne, psoriasis, vitiligo, disorders of the skin appendages) or to monitor the progression of a previously diagnosed skin condition.
A dermatology consultation is useful for determining the nature of symptoms such as:

abnormalities observed in a mole;

the presence of various types of skin rashes;
-
the presence of wheals and/or angioedema, with or without pain or persistent itching;
-
changes in the colour and texture of the skin.
HOW DOES THE CONSULTATION WORK?
The dermatologist will first take the patient’s medical history, gathering all relevant information regarding the patient’s background and lifestyle, as well as the condition itself (onset and duration of symptoms, and their characteristics).
During the second part of the consultation, the specialist will examine the skin lesions that led the patient to seek a consultation.
The dermatologist may, if necessary, request that the patient undergo diagnostic tests such as allergy tests, a skin prick test, a skin biopsy and/or blood tests.
HOW SHOULD YOU PREPARE FOR THE APPOINTMENT?
There are no specific preparation instructions. Patients are asked to bring with them:

any tests carried out at the request of their GP and any other tests relating to the condition that have been carried out previously;

any recent blood tests, even if carried out for other reasons;
-
the names of any medicines they take daily.
