DENTAL HYGIENE AND PREVENTION

Professional dental hygiene is a practical therapeutic procedure aimed at maintaining the health of the oral cavity in all its components, namely the teeth, gum tissue, bone and periodontal ligaments. Metica helps patients achieve and maintain a healthy mouth by providing a team of qualified dentists and hygienists who are experts in professional oral hygiene treatments.

Although the value associated with this practice is primarily aesthetic, the personal and social benefit of being able to show a beautiful, healthy smile is just one of the important aspects linked to the consistent practice of proper and careful oral hygiene.

  • Before assessing the patient’s oral health, the dentist must familiarise themselves with the patient’s oral hygiene habits and any previous medical conditions by taking a thorough medical history.

  • This is followed by a diagnostic examination, during which, if deemed necessary by the dentist, a digital X-ray will also be taken.

  • At the end of the initial consultation, the patient will receive a clear and comprehensive diagnosis regarding the state of their oral health, together with a treatment plan and a cost estimate for addressing the identified dental issues.

Improvements in the oral hygiene techniques carried out by the patient at home are of great importance for the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease.

The role of the dental hygienist is also to provide the patient with the correct instructions for carrying out oral hygiene at home:

  • Brush your teeth after every meal

  • Brush your teeth for about 3 minutes

  • Floss or use an interdental brush once a day

The frequency of oral hygiene appointments for each individual patient is determined by the dental hygienist working at the dental practice, based on a number of factors, such as the alignment of the teeth, personal oral hygiene, the health of the gums and predisposing factors relating to the build-up of tartar. For patients with excellent oral health, appointments are usually scheduled every six months.
