HUMAN NUTRITION AND SPORTS NUTRITION

WHAT IS A NUTRITIONIST’S CONSULTATION?
A nutritional consultation enables the specialist to assess the individual’s lifestyle and eating habits, their overall state of health and any medical conditions, as well as the goals to be achieved through a programme of nutritional education, which are agreed with the specialist.
It is aimed at adults and children of all ages.

WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF A NUTRITIONAL CONSULTATION?
FOOD EDUCATION
As well as helping each patient achieve their personal goals, the specialist will ensure that, throughout the programme, patients are made aware of the key principles of a healthy and balanced diet. The importance of eating healthily and taking part in daily physical activity goes beyond simply losing excess weight or building more defined muscle. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), a healthy lifestyle is “a way of life aimed at reducing the risk of disease and premature death”.
The role of diet in preventing certain diet-related diseases has now been scientifically proven. Diabetes, metabolic disorders, cancer and cardiovascular diseases are closely linked to poor dietary habits. Again according to the WHO, adequate nutrition and health are to be regarded as fundamental human rights, closely interlinked with one another
BODY COMPOSITION
If the aim is to improve physical fitness or appearance, lose body fat or increase muscle mass, the specialist will adopt an approach based on the recommendations in the literature, taking into account the patient’s personal lifestyle, food and drink preferences, clinical parameters and training regime.
This objective goes hand in hand with the importance of mindful eating, which helps the patient adopt strategies that become habits. In this way, by the end of the programme, it will be more difficult to revert to old habits or return to square one.
WEIGHT LOSS AND WELLBEING
Through the development of personalised plans, patients will receive guidance that takes into account both their medical history and their personal lifestyle.
A wide range of conditions are treated, the main ones being:
-
Obesity
-
Anaemia
-
Thyroid disorders; cardiovascular diseases; liver diseases; kidney diseases; skin conditions (e.g. cellulite)
-
Diabetes
-
Eating disorders (EDs)
The nutritionist will provide personalised advice and recommendations to help the patient lose weight in a healthy way, monitoring and supporting them throughout the process. The aim is to make the process as enjoyable and manageable as possible in everyday life, with a view to guiding the patient towards the result they wish to achieve.
For a weight-loss diet to be successful, the key is the patient’s adherence to the plan.
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
This service is open to all sportspeople: from regular gym and boxing club-goers, to amateur athletes, to those competing at the highest level in their sport.
